Loving Trash Can

I saw this trash can while in Vancouver and was really taken aback. Its a trash can with a rack on the front for people to place their recyclable bottles in.

In Vancouver there is a large homeless population. The city also pays people out 5 to 10 cents for each bottle or can they return. Consequently there are allot of people roaming the streets for bottles and cans.

Because people place their recyclables on the outside of the garbage can, street people no longer have to rummage through dirty garbage to get to the recyclables. They aren't treated like animals any more.

I thought it was a really good system.

What do you guys think about it?

It's a great initiative fo sho.

The can looks decent, but me thinks there needs to be more bottle 'n' can space. These things are trashed super hard all the time and I would argue that about 50% of urban trash space goes to house these empty containers.

Solution: Trash-can "parasites" that are beyond recycling and dedicated to the homeless.

As a matter of fact, that could be super-good. The homeless are always diving through the trash cans. Why not make them a homeless community point of access to survival goods. Do it in a tactful and appropriate way, and we can all make it easier for those that scavenge find what they're looking for.
