Park Bench

I had a dream about designing this bench, so I threw it into solidworks.
Hot or not? I'd like the back to maybe twist once.

Origami in Vegas

I'm excited to finally be able to show you some of the projects I've been working on in the past 4 months. 4 Moms debuted the world's first power folding stroller and the Mamaroo bouncerswing at the ABC kid's show in Las Vegas this past week. Response was tremendous, from the Mamaroo winning the innovation award to IDEO stopping by to tell me it was beautiful, to a bunch of job offers, but I'm pretty happy at Thorley Industries. Ps... search 4 moms automatic stroller on youtube to see it in action!
J Bare better buy one!

Robo Cop

I saw this thing in Penn Station on patrol. To me it looks like they took it off the set of Robo Cop.

In my opinion well designed police equipment should not look like a toy. Ideally police equipment should command respect without appearing menacing. This thing falls in the silly category. I don't know if I could take anyone seriously that pulled up in one of them.

...but its not as bad as this

analog

just saw this on gizmodo, its the top view of a point and soot dig. camera. i love the analog gauges for battery life and memory space.

what other gadgets could use a return to analog details?
what about a analog clock on a cell phone, maybe over top the corner of the screeen..

Loving Trash Can

I saw this trash can while in Vancouver and was really taken aback. Its a trash can with a rack on the front for people to place their recyclable bottles in.

In Vancouver there is a large homeless population. The city also pays people out 5 to 10 cents for each bottle or can they return. Consequently there are allot of people roaming the streets for bottles and cans.

Because people place their recyclables on the outside of the garbage can, street people no longer have to rummage through dirty garbage to get to the recyclables. They aren't treated like animals any more.

I thought it was a really good system.

What do you guys think about it?

You waste of space!

You guys know when you go to a bar and somebody's handing out free cigarettes. Yeah, it's great when you've got a couple drinks down and you just want the cool feel of that tarry smoke in your lungs. But you've gotta give them your information so they can send you this crap every now and again. I've gotten some wasteful advertisements before, but this one is a hum-dinger. At first, you think, "Hmm, cool. They sent a pack of cigs." But no, it's a lie. All of that time, money, material, energy and effort that Joe Camel expelled is all for just a lousy coupon. A coupon that they could've mailed on a postcard or just posted on their website. So now, not only is Joe Camel killing us with his cancer, he's burying us in his packaging waste. For shame. Get it together Joe.

The Next Industrial Revolution

You guys may have seen this, but it's a nice short animation referencing the way we need to perform as designers.

Ponoko Finalist!

This fine pendant here was just selected in the Ponoko jewelry design contest. Ponoko is a new initiative to help designers get their projects manufactured. It's pretty limited right now (they only do laser-cutting), but it looks like they'll be expanding in the future. They will be cutting these parts and sending them to me to photograph and post for the "Final Round."

This is a really addicting game. You have to grow weights to keep it all balanced. I 'm not normally into internet gamses, but this is a good 'un.

Vision of the future seen in bionic contact lens
Thumper has seen the future. Researchers at the University of Washington have created the prototype for a bionic contact lens - Â recently tested on rabbits - that includes light- emitting diodes, basic wiring for electronic circuits and even a tiny antenna.
